Portfolio of Works
A Note About Frames and Mats
Most of Joel's works are offered for sale framed and ready to display. He believes that presentation is an important factor in the appreciation and enjoyment of art, as well as its conservation and protection, so he devotes attention to the aesthetic and protective qualities of the frames on his art. There are three categories of frames, listed below, which are indicated in each work's description. Certain works are offered without frames, but can be framed before purchase. Works on paper are custom matted and backed with archival materials, whether framed or unframed.
1. Custom Bespoke Frames
These are frames hand made by the artist from frame molding he has designed and constructed to compliment the work. They are an ideal display option, and they add an element of additional value to the work because of their unique, artist-made origin.
2. Custom Frames
These are much like the Custom Bespoke Frames, except that the artist did not personally construct the molding. These frames are hand-made by the artist from molding he selected to compliment the work.
3. Pre-Made Frames
These are high-quality frames made by top frame manufacturers in a couple of different categories. First, there are the museum-style and plein aire frames that require complex molds and equipment to make, so they are best left to experienced manufacturers. Second are simple display frames that serve to present works elegantly with minimal expense.
Limited Edition Hand-Made Relief Prints
The works in this section are all linocuts carved and printed by hand on high-quality, archival paper. Most are offered with archival mounting and a custom 8-ply mat, and many of them are framed, including custom bespoke frames by the artist.
Works On Paper
This section of the website displays works in a variety of media on paper. (Relief prints on paper, however, have their own section, above.) Some of the works that appear in this section are also collected in specific displays of similar works.
Works in Ink on Paper
MORE IMAGES COMING SOON
Ink on paper is a medium that forces attention to the essential. It is also a historic medium in both European and Asian art, which I think favors a timeless perspective in the viewer. Ink was often used to make preparatory sketches for paintings by Medieval and Renaissance European artists, and the sketches they produced as practical steps on the way to making large, colorful works are now seen by many as complete artworks on their own.
Event Posters
Since 2023, Joel's work has been selected for at least one collectible promotional poster each year for the World Arts Day celebrations in Carrizozo, New Mexico. A limited number of each poster edition is available for purchase.
