This scene is unabashedly picturesque. I often park my car in the field next to this church when I walk in the mountains nearby, and I can hardly ever restrain myself from walking around it several times to see it from every angle. The historic building, the only one left standing in the ghost town of Kelly, seems always to be cast in poignant light.

Halloween 1968

On Halloween night, 2020, I was visited in my imagination by a very dear ghost, who conjured a scene barely visible through a mist of memory and time. We’re not always able to stop and stay with these visitations, but it was Halloween during a quarantine, so with nothing else pressing, I spent my evening in pleasant company, immersed in nostalgia.
