Landscape with Fields

When you’re near the Rio Grande in central New Mexico, with the right vantage, you can see multiple worlds in one view. The lush natural growth surrounding the river, the rich fields of crops along the irrigation ditches, the desert bordering the irrigated fields, and eventually the foothills and mountains in the distance, with their many life zones at all the different elevations. And of course, crowning it all, the sky, a theater of shape and color, with new shows hourly. This image is from autumn, when the crops are being harvested.

Snow is a great transformer. When it’s falling, it connects the land with the sky – clouds full of snow, snow in the air, snow on the earth. One element bridging all of these dimensions. And when it’s done, everything is changed.
